    Wrapping a background that scrolls?

Im currently working on a game that has a scrolling background with a player that should wrap the ends of the playfield (think Defender).

Is it possible to wrap the playfield without getting a huge 'jump' with scrolling layers?

My version jumps the camera and there is a 'fast forward' effect on the different layers.

What I would like to see is the player always centered in the playfield and still be able to wrap a 10 screen wide level.

yes - im doing it a remake of the classic c64 aliens game by electric dreams.

the scrolling part is quite simple. the tricky part is keeping track of enemies that jump back and forth - but theres a number of sneaky ways to do it.

    How are you doing this?

Are you jumping the player (camera target) to the end of the playfield? Or are you using some kind of wrap commands built into mmf?

If you are using a jumping method, can you give me any pointers on how to size my scrolling quick backdrops so they match up when the jump occurs?

im not using scroll/wrap or anything like that.
im moving the playfield in pieces. and they move back and forth outside the level.

    thats the easy bit.

i found using something like a minimap and moving all parts and enemies acording to where they are there.

thats the basis for it - simple really.

Re: Wrapping a background that scrolls?

You can wrap the background with the "Wrap" options in the layers. You also have to increase the virtual width and height (scrolling limit) of the frame in its properties. That's all The backdrops will wrap when the player reaches the right (and/or bottom) of the playfield.
