    BG system box = slow

Example shows a bug that is causing apps to slow down when scrolling while a background system box is in the frame. The larger the frame is the slower it runs. The frame in the example is enourmous, but even in medium sized frames it can still be a big problem. Also it only happens when "handle background collisions even out of window" is checked, so it must have something to do with the collision mask I s'pose.

This existed before build 243 but then it would only slow down the app when it was scrolling at a very slow speed. In MMF 1.5 it does not slow down at all, regardless of the frame size.

I reeally hope this can be fixed...

I'm not sure if this'll help, but, I know of a tutorial that's for parallax, and it deals with the Background System Box and Active System Box. In fact, I think it mentioned the "handle background collisions even out of window" thing.

The home page of the site is here: Click here. From there, go to Tutorials (on the menu on the left), and from there, click on Special Effects, then find the tutorial called "Paralax" (the link on their site has improper spelling [grin] ). Then, simply click the "Download" button.

I tried it and the speed of the scrolling is fine.
The movement of the active object was slow an jerky, so I increased its max speed. Even with the active object moving faster, scrolling was still smooth. No bug there for me.

I tried it too. With or without the Background System Box, it works fine for me. It's just your Active Object is slow and with low gravity, so it looked like it was messed up to me at first. No problem on my PC/MMF.

Re: BG system box = slow

Yeegads! How can this be? I doubt it's just because your PCs are faster, since mine isn't all that slow and this example runs at 5 FPS. Without the BSB I can get it to run at 500 FPS.

And yes the active object has slow movement to demonstrate how the scrolling messes up in build 242.

This problem should be solved in the final version of the build 243.

In accordance to this post about Paralax, try using the Layer feature of MMF2, I've used it for Paralax and achieved a better result with this then using the BG System box.

Re: BG system box = slow

I mentioned in the other topic that I was using the BG system boxes for parallax because layers (above #1) are not so good at handling a lot of backdrop objects, unless "handle BG collisions even out of window" is turned off.

It would be cool if there was an option to manually define how far outside the window to handle collisions. Then you could get a good speed with layers and still have collisions offscreen, just not too far offscreen, which would be fine for most games I think.

But anyways, YES! I am so gladd that this system box problem is being fixed. Thankyou!

Okay, another example. This time with a parallax background.

Should be fixed in the second release candidate of the build 243. Could you re-download it and test it? Thanks.
