    [REQUEST]--MT2 music extension

I was just thinking, "wouldn't it be handy if there was an extension that could play mt2 format music?" The problem is that my computer doesn't like VC++. So, Now I'm asking if anyone friendly out there could possibly make an extension (preferably vitalized) that can play music in the MT2 (MadTracker 2) format.

Yeah, MT2 sounds like a program-specific format (why are there so many!?) so like nK says you're better off converting it to a standardised tracker format like .it and playing it with MMF2's internal sound support.

(nK, I thought you left? Am I thinking of someone else?)

    Re: [REQUEST]--MT2 music extension

.mt2's are not that .it compatible, so the job of converting it so it still sounds accurate could be a task almost as hard as composing the song itself.

I wouldn't personally use .mt2's in a game (or well, if I did, I wouldn't use too much effects as they consume extra CPU, which might be too much for an old computer)...

Also, the mt2 format is so complex that it would take a lot of time creating a player for it. I wasn't able to find a .dll dedicated to play mt2 files, but it sure would help. One solution that might work fine, is if somebody creates an "winamp input plugin --> mmf2" wrapper (after all, there's an input plugin for .mt2's). Not only would it be easier than creating an mt2 extension - it would also open up for a large number of other formats that MMF2 doesn't play.

...unless there are any legal issues about creating such a thing (America has scary software patents).

modplug is the most popular tracking software, to convert you open it and save it, else use winamp and make the file a .mp3 or .ogg with a low bitrate

    Re: [REQUEST]--MT2 music extension

Extension developers normally make extensions that have a benefit to a large number of people, or have a very helpful purpose.

This extension seems like it would only benefit a handful of people and it wouldn't really add anything new to MMF 2 (MMF 2 can already play music, you just have to convert to a format that MMF 2 can play).

Additionally you have not provided any resources on the MT2 format, so you are leaving any research up to the developer, and you haven't provided any ideas for how such an extension should work (What actions it should have, ect).

With this in mind your best bet would be to hire a developer to make this extension for you.
