    Using the Search Function?

    Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered before (or if I'm asking a stupid question...) but I couldn't find it in the forum.

I'm trying to use the Search object in MMF2 to search for files within a directory, identify them, and then use the File object to move them to a different folder.

For this I think I need to be able to use wildcards, and also to be able to exclude files from the list to copy based upon words their names may contain - ie don't copy any files with a name containing "backup" or "duplicate"

When I try a search using the object, I can't work out how to access the results created. The help file is rather sparse on this.

Any pointers on the basic usage of the object and how to deal with wildcards are much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Um, I don't know what to do with it, but the YASO object has a wild card feature.

a different approach might be to use the List Object. You can load a file list from a directory, then use the "Find String" to locate the file name. Also, I think the "Find String" searches for only part of the file name, whereas the "Find String Exact" searches for the exact match.

Great, I shall give those ideas a try.

It does make me wonder though, what is the Search Object for? Does anyone know how to use it? There is very little info in the help file about it. If I work it out, I'll report back! What I want to do is quite simple really so maybe I'll manage to work it out through trial and error.

Thanks again for all your help.

    Thanks Joshtek.

I really should've found that myself, so apologies there!

That object does exactly what I need.

    Thanks.
