    7 zip compression?

Is there an extension that can create archives compressed with 7zip?

    Re: 7 zip compression?

I think Jam was working on it, but changed to zip instead. But I think the Binary object can compress data with 7zip.

No, the zip object uses Zlib, that what Zip files are using. Unless I'm confusing with another format.

It does, and so does the Zip object.

Ok, so I'm just wondering just how good zlib's compression is compared to 7zip.

    Re: 7 zip compression?

Ive heard (from multiple sources) that a newer version of 7zip had improvements over zip (or w/e).

    Re: 7 zip compression?

It depend on what's being compressed. When it comes to files that have the potential to be compressed a lot (such as .bmp's), 7z can be a whole lot better. For example, according to a test I just did - a bunch of bmp's that are 555MB altogether can turn into a 12,9MB .7z file, while zipping it will result in a 26,3MB file. Large areas of solid colors explain the extreme size reduction btw.

but 7Ziping or Zipping jpg or png from 555MB will get you a 500MB file or so
