    MMF2 and OS X

Most click games already run fairly well through CrossOver on OS X, but what would be amazing is the ability to build native intel-mac builds, or at least applications that launch transparently in OS X.

Has anyone at Clickteam looked into licensing Cider for deploying Mac builds?

The onslaught of quality MMF creations would be a boon to the indie mac game scene, and I personally would be willing to pay well for such a feature.

I got my new application, DocuScope 2007, running under Wine in Ubuntu Work's very well indeed; exactly as I'd expect it to work natively under Windows

    Re: MMF2 and OS X

I installed Ubuntu x86-64 a week ago and haven't loaded windows since.

A surprising number of things work well under wine on linux. Even direct-x 9 is supported by the newest version of wine, but with my graphics card being badly supported under linux (ati x1000 series) I can't use more than direct-x 7 features. Direct-x 9 games work, as long as they handle not having shaders. I'm replacing my graphics card with an 8800GTS soon anyway, so that should help.

Even more surprising are the number of things that have a working linux version. Essentially, there's nothing I can't do under linux that I could under windows, and it's so much more responsive.

    Re: MMF2 and OS X

Ive been running Ubuntu for a few months too, but I recently chose the 32-bit version because IMO the 64-bit version wasn't worth the trouble (problems with some 32-bit apps vs not much speed improvement).

MMF2s ran very well with WINE, the only problem that I saw (keep in mind I didn't look very far) was that the auto-updater didn't download, also I think the icons in the extension window didn't move themselves when the window resized.

I only switch back to Windows to play cpu-intensive games (cuz my cpu is really old).

I don't really see why MMF would need Mac compatibility, it seems alot of mac users say that they just want to do photo and video editing (and music, etc), thats what they say when I bring up the Macs lack of a range of software in an argument, so it seems they knew what they got themselves into when they bought it.

Additionally, I don't want to buy a new (expensive and (for me) useless) system to bug-test my games, I don't want to deal with less-than-knowledgeable computer users crying to me about their mac-related problems (no second mouse button!).

Linux is a much more logical choice for getting MMF compatibility with, not only would it be easier to bug-test (LiveCD/LiveUSB/Emulation) it would also be compatible with game consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox (when modded).

Also considering that many people are migrating to Linux because of MS's push of Vista, and that switching from Windows to Linux is easier than switching to Mac (don't need to buy a whole new PC).

Anyway, cant Mac users run Linux too?

Mac users can run Linux and Windows now, if they want.

It would be great for developers who sell their creations. Although the Mac market is small compared to windows, many (non-MMF) game developers are very happy with their Mac sales.

    Re: MMF2 and OS X

Some popular games actually have Mac ports.
I use Ubuntu Feisty too. last time I used Linux Wine used to be REALLY unstable. Now it seems to get updated and I run GC almost perfectly. (Sounds won't work for now and some minor graphical glitches.)
    Also, Beryl is AWESOME!
I'm downloading VMWare, so I can install Windows on a virtual machine for programs not compatible with Wine.
Also, When I develop in MMF2, I try to make sure that my game or program is fully compatible with Wine.

    Re: MMF2 and OS X

It's best to add the official Wine repositories, they run better than the older version in the Ubuntu repository. And the one in the Ubuntu repository doesn't support x86-64, and the Wine one does.

EDIT: run the Wine config, you should be able to get sounds working in alsa mode. I can play counter-strike source in the newest Wine perfectly, including sound, other than the occasional crash caused by my ati card's linux driver.

Liji, try using VirtualBox instead of VMware, its what I use and I hear its alot better than other emulation programs, and it has nifty features like automatically adjusting the resolution of windows when you resize it, also you don't have to worry about the "mouse focus" thing.
