    [Request]Normal Map function for lens object

    For the lens object, I wish there was a way to use a normal map, which is different from a bump map.
    A bump map shows depth, while a normal map shows angles (each color channel is a different axis).

    I think normal maps might actually be faster than bump maps.

    I thought of allowing normal maps actually
    I also planned a long awaited speed upgrade for it, and I will begin on that as soon as I finish my exams

    Yay. How soon is that?

    I never really understood how something could be made 'faster'. I mean I don't know c++ or anything, I tried but I never kept at it.

    It is mainly the way things are made and how "fast" those different things are.
    For example Lens object currently reads a pixel at a time from the source lens image and then another pixel from the background. But the way I read a pixel from the source image is really slow unfortunately.
    In MMF2 there were made some significant speed improvements on per-pixel operations but Lens object currently doesn't take advantage of that. There are also other small improvements that can be made here and there.

    Actually I think a dedicated Normal Map object would be preferred mainly so I can add features such as both refraction and shadows for lighting (so you can simulate bumpy surfaces like in 3D games)

    Wow! If you're going to add all that, you should probably change the name from lens object to normal object or something like that.
