    Wobbly sniper scope?

    I'm trying to make a little shooting game where you use the mouse to aim. However, to make it more challenging, I would like to do it similar to a sniper scope where the crosshairs wobble slightly as the mouse remains still. The farther/faster you move the mouse the greater the back-and-forth wobble becomes which stabilizes over time.

    I've tried several different techniques (such as using ellipse movement and a chaser object) but so far I haven't gotten to work just right. Either too jerky or unrealistic. After looking at examples by vortex2 and UltimateWalrus, I see there should be a more elegant way of doing this but it currently escapes my mortal brain.

    Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Wow, thank you for the quick response. Actually, that technique is similar to one of the things I've tried but I think maybe it is a little too sporadic for what I'm looking for. I am trying to get a more complex "springy" feel to it. For example, if you whip the mouse to the right, the crosshair will move with a slight lag to the left and then bounce slightly to the right and left once you stop - eventually settling in to a slight random wobble. With a little skill you could fight the inertia slightly by counteracting with small mouse movements.

    I do quite a bit of these mouse shooting games so it would be nice "polish" to include this type of reticle movement. (A little creative use of the Lens object makes it look quite sharp as well.) At first I thought it would be fairly easy to figure out until I actually tried to do it. I've spent more time working on this than the entire game. Dope! >_<

    Hey, I was toying with the idea of making a game like this a few months ago. I couldn't be bothered to continue with it, but I've got a pretty solid sniper engine so you can have it.

    Use it for what you like, just credit me if you do.

    I've uploaded the engine to the MMF2 download section.
