    [Bug Report] Include External Files

    Reproducing the bug

    • Extract the file attached to this post and open Image Bug.mfa in MMF2.
    • Run the application (F8). Everything will work normally, you will see an image.
    • Export the application to an .exe in the same path as the .mfa. Run the .exe - you will still see the image here too.
    • Export the application to an .exe outside the application path, for example the desktop. Run the .exe - you will not see the image, which you of course should.
    • The working exe which was exported to the application path can be moved around to anywhere on the hard-drive, it will still display the picture - even if the original application path and it's content is removed.
    • The non-working exe will not work even if moved to the folder with the image and the .mfa
    • I've tried with larger files. Judging from the size of the .exe, the file is always compressed into the .exe, even if it's exported to another path than the application one so that it fails to access it.

    Conclusion

If you export your application to an .exe outside the application path, with the setting "include external files", your application will not be able to access the compressed files.

Thanks for the info, I'll try to fix it but I'm not sure if it's easy to do.

Anyway you should always build your stand-alone applications in the same folder as the .MFA file, that eases the task for MMF2. That's the safer way to be sure that MMF2 will correctly relocate the pathnames.

Just for information, I can not duplicate your problem. Regardless of where I build an exe with files included, or the location it is run from, the included files are extracted to a temporary folder in my Temp directory ( D:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp ) along with the run time and any extensions that are required by the build. This is the way it has always worked for me and I assumed by design within MMF2.

Aye, I too can't reproduce the problem. No matter where I build the application. Desktop, root, some folders up, different drive. Keeps showing the image.

I guess it doesn't happen everywhere, but I'm 100% sure about that it does here (on 2 different PC's actually).

On my machine the app would just seem to stop working periodicaly, untill i removed the image banner then it seemed to work fine ?
I posted the two .zip files for people to try to reproduce the symptoms i was getting there.

People who used it said it worked well but was not reliable enough, the expression was " good if you can get it to work"

Have found this with a few apps now heres a link to another that although does what it is supposed to do the yellow outline box does not always appear when it should.... but it still works ok its just sometimes you can not see where you are supposed to be dragging.

In think all these little things are related in some weird way.
