    [Request] EAX; Directsound plugin

    Hi!

    Is there anyone here that could make an extension for MMF2 that could tap into the power of Directsound or EAX.
    Perhaps at the same time even utilize hardware acceleration of todays soundcards.
    What I'm searching for is a way to put realtime reverb and other atmospheric effects on specific soundchannels and be able to modulate the sound with scripts inside the game.

    Thanks! I read that just before I posted this.
    But it sounds to me more like a tool to make a mixer/rack object for music software,
    than for straightforward filter work, but I may be wrong.

    Are you hoping to be able to variate the frequencies/speed's on specific channel's?

    I wonder how common EAX enabled soundcards are though.

    A complete EAX solution with spatialization would surely be fun, if not abit overkill.
    If I have understood it correctly, Directsound itself should support simple reverb, echo and flange effects.
    Perhaps that is all I'm looking for.
    By using those I would not need to record/mix different samplings for different environments in our game.

    With today's CPU speeds, it might be a better solution to just have a sound extension with it's in-built effect processor. You wouldn't be dependent on certain hardware, and I think you'd still get an acceptable latency if you manage to include a good sounding yet cpu-friendly reverb (like freeverb). Another advantage is that you would be able to process different sounds through different effects.

    That sounds like a great idea!
    And as you say, todays CPU's should be able to handle that on a couple of channels with ease.

    I would love to see that feature in the original sound object in the future releases of MMF2.
    But until that day, perhaps there is a kind soule out there that are more familiar with soundprograming than me,
    and would be able and willing to make an extension out of this?
