    Demo recording?

Hey, I wanted to know how the demo mode works in MMF2. I click the record demo button (on the Frame Properties window), and the current level launches. So far so good. But them what? I've happily blown my level to pieces, ready to save it as the demo, but what next? How do I save it? I tried the Demo File button above the Record Demo Button, but that opens an Open File window, not a Save/Create Dialogue...

    Is confuzzled!

    Re: Demo recording?

If you look above the "Record Demo" button in the properties for your frame, you will see a field where you type in, or browse, a filename for your demo file.

The file that is created uses the extension: .mfd.

After you have recorded your demo, you have to load that file via an event in MMF2. Normally, you would do that at Start of frame.

    That would be:

    Storyboard Controls|Demo|Play demo file

Remember that, when you play a demo, the file will be relative to your application. So, you would want to use appath$ + "filename" if your demo file is in the same folder of your application. In fact, that is where you should also save your demo file when you record it.

Does that clear it up for you?

Do not forget prior to recording the demo, to set the seed of the random number generator to a number diferent from -1!

    Re: Demo recording?

Do you have to leave the seed at the same value to be able to play back the demo?

    Re: Demo recording?

Yes. If you do not, the random generator and the application will get synched out, and the replay will not work...

    Re: Demo recording?

I think it would be good to suggest here that the tip that appears at the bottom of the Properties toolbar should note that, if possible:

"Random generator seed. Must be set to other than -1 to record a demo. Do not change the original seed used when playing a demo."

Or that info could be related when you click on the Record demo field.

That is very useful and important information.

Also, can I suggest that the Help file is updated to include a bigger description of how it works? All I could find is:

    Not that much help.

Anyway, massive thanks for the help, guys ^_^
