    Using expressions in strings?

Hi, is there a way to get a string that's a math formula from something like an ini or a database and calculate it?

What I want to do is write down a bunch of math formulas and then load them into the expression editor so I can set a counter to the sum.
Can I do this or is there a work around?

    Thanks

You can either use the Expression Evaluator Object (free for non-commercial use) or do it yourself (e.g. via the Lua object).

If it's not too much trouble could you explain how to use LUA for this? I might go commercial with my game and would probably forget to pay the commercial fee for the expresison evaluator. I don't want to rip anyone off.

    Re: Using expressions in strings?

Hey, I'm trying the Expression Evaluator, but if the string that it evaluates references another MMF object it returns the error code "Varibale (blah blah) does not exist"

If I type in "2+value( "Counter" )" into an edit box then use he expression evaluator on the text from the edit box, I get that error message.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I think it's not possible to access other objects with the Expression Evaluator.

    "2+" + str$(value( "Counter" ))

if we assume that the value of the counter is 7 this equals

    "2+7"

you can then run it in the expression evaluator

    Re: Using expressions in strings?

For either Lua or Expression Evaluator if you want to get data from an object then you have to make a function within the expression which then gets processed by an event which returns the relevant value.
