    Java HWA?

I recently noticed there is hardware acceleration available for Java (for example, check this). Because of this I was wondering if the Click Java applications will support hardware acceleration at some point, too.

Here is an official link at Sun...

    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/2d/new_features.html

Didn't get to read over it that well, so I don't know if it's possible.

I don't see why you say that. I don't see why the fact that the C++ runtime uses Direct3D would prevent us from making an OpenGL version of the Java runtime. I don't know if it's possible, but if it's not possible that's certainly not for this reason.

    Re: Java HWA?

Nice positive reaction there! It'd be awesome, but of course probably take more work.

Would Java DirectX HWA even be possible? It'd totally break portability across platforms/OSes.

    Re: Java HWA?

As Java is a completely separate language to the C the Windows runtime is written in, HWA would have to be rewritten for it anyway, so it probably isn't much different to use OpenGL or DirectX (if there even is a Java DX api).

Not that it would be a small job, it would take as long as implementing HWA did in the first place.

To be honest, Java HWA is not in the top of my tasks list. Before I have BluRay, Mobile devices and then Silverlight version.
