    Sprite Replacing

I remember xerus (sorry if I spelt your name wrong) posting about his game having sprites switch with others at runtime, well I've been compiling my friends MMF 1.5 game for him for a while now and I recently downloaded HWA beta 2c, which upped my normal MMF to build 248. Before we had no problems but now some objects (totally randomly chosen ones) have their images swapped with others.

This lead to some humorous things such as people flying around you instead of insects.

Anyway I'm going to go back to build 247 now, and hope that fixes it. Just though I'd let you know.

    Re: Sprite Replacing

Errr, ok I went back to build 247 and everything... And it still happens, we're supposed to be releasing this game in a couple of weeks from now and the player and various other objects are changing animations and sprites at random... The player is swimming in the air an attacking when he walks when I attack he is replaced by several other people sprites...

Anyone got any ideas? A file can be uploaded but not for the general public.

EDIT: Oh it doesn't ALWAYS happen by the way, only after significant play-time and several frame changes.

    Re: Sprite Replacing

This issue has already been reported by Chris Street some time ago for a previous build, but I couldn't reproduce it or find what was causing it (I don't remember very well). Hopefully I'll have more chance with the application sent by xerus, or maybe yours (could you send it to me?).

    Re: Sprite Replacing

Xerus confirmed to me that going back to V247 did NOT resolve the problem. It seems like a runtime component (extension or otherwise) is replaced by HWA and messes up applications built even with the regular MMF2. :/

    Re: Sprite Replacing

this is probably totally wrong, but if this is happening with AOs, maybe their image "banks" are being corrupted or overwritten when they shouldn't be

    Re: Sprite Replacing

I'm having this EXACT same problem. It doesn't seem to make any sense. It's not the number of objects, because it does it in frames where i have less objects than frames that run fine. Sometimes its REALLY bad. Like a tiny 16X16 enemy will get a frame of his animation replaced by a HUGE backdrop tile. And get this, sometimes the animations that get replaced come from COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEVELS. I hope someone has an answer for this because it's now impeding my progress.

Could you send me an example application too? More I'll have examples, more I'll have a chance to find what happens.

I wish i could, but sending you the file would require sending an entire pack of files because you'd need the save data as well as the full game and it's pretty enormous.

    Re: Sprite Replacing

I may be on to something with this problem. Check all of your global objects. Especially backdrops. For some reason, i had some global objects that had the same name but had different graphics/animations. I cleared all these objects out of one of the problematic frames, and it SEEMED to stop the problem. It might not actually be the culprit, but it's a step forward anyway.

LOL I love reading about funcky bugs, no offence. Can you swithch the sprites back by editing them? Or are they stuck that way?
