    Re: Web browser

I'd recommend using the ActiveX of Internet Explorer (The ActiveX object is in the objects menu, and the browser is called Microsoft Web browser). It's very difficult to start making your own browser from scratch.

The ActiveX works for almost everything needed.

Or, if you don't want to use the Internet Explorer engine, you could always use the Mozilla ActiveX control :

    Re: Web browser

If you use the Mozilla ActiveX you should be warned that users of your software will also have to install it.

    Re: Web browser

You firewall should do that anytime a new application wants to connect. That's is normal and correct.

Depending on what firewall you are using, you then give that application permission, either temporarily or permanently.

    Re: Web browser

Yes, that's correct. But the Mozilla ActiveX wants a
connection when the application/ActiveX loads and
without a "connect to a website"-action in event editor.
With the IE-ActiveX this doesn't happen,
the firewall pops up only on a "connect"-action.

    Re: Web browser

IE = basis of your PC, windows explorer has been IE since windows 98 therefore it does not need to check for internet connectivity and proxy settings because it gets them from the base OS.
Firefox is not intregrated with the OS, therefore it needs to check if an internet connection is available and get the proxy settings, so obvesly the the firewall intervenes

    Re: Web browser

I think he was being sarcastic that it was "suspicious" that the Mozilla ActiveX wanted an internet connection (as that is what it is designed to do!)
