    Yaso.cox has a virus?

My antivirus program (Nortan 2003) has detected that Yaso.cox has a trojan horse and quarantined it.

Not sure if it has a virus or if it is just treating it like it has one. I dont know what it is and since I do frequent scans, I can only assume it comes from the latest update.

    Just passing it on.

It's a false positive. Please report it to Symantec.

    Re: Yaso.cox has a virus?

I wonder why all these false positives related to MMF apps appear at a regular basis. Is it that someone have actually created malicious software in MMF, and when the antivirus companies adds it to their virus definitions databases, they identify the MMF2 runtime and/or extensions as the bad content? It's just a theory though, I can't understand why else MMF apps are frequently identified as viruses.

I've been contacted many times about people who's upset about me spreading viruses in my games, every time I have to explain about the false positives.

Yes it's very easy to knock up a nasty app in MMF, unfortunatly it's down to some members of the community being a bit lax.
Lending the software out or having their system compromised.
We can't stop people from doing this but the up shot of it is your false positive.

Hmm Interesting. I have never experienced this problem and I'm using Mcafee.

Do you think it would be a good idea to include in a readme as to why the users anti-virus might be detecting our games/applications as viruses? :S

    Re: Yaso.cox has a virus?

McAfee missed 72 infected files. I ended up having to delete MMF1.5 because the runtime and all mmf exe files were were infected with backdoo.justfun. Probably did me a favor because MMF2 is the better product. I have never gotten a false positive with any product with MMF2. I do the scannings in Safe Mode using a different product.

AVG gives me false positives all the time with random MMF related files.

    Re: Yaso.cox has a virus?

AVG has messed up like this a few times. If an AVG update doesn't fix it then follow the AVG guidelines to get it fixed:
If you suspect a file to be a false positive. Test the file at [virusscan.jotti.org] and if it is a false positive, archive (zip, arc, tar etc) the file using a password and email a copy to virus@grisoft.com with a brief description as well as the password you used to archive it with.

If it is a false positive , turn off hueristic scanning for the time being. When Grisoft adjusts the virus defintions you can turn it back on. If turning off Hueristics still doesn't allow access to the file while testing and emailing... disable the resident shield temporarily.

    Re: Yaso.cox has a virus?

Avast gives me the same result with YASO.cox, but I never considered it could be a real infected file... I hope i'm not mistaken...
