    Divx or Xvid support?

I was wondering if there is anyway I could play DivX or Xvid files indsie MMF 2? Because those formats are much smaller and better quality than regular AVI files.

You can with DirectShow if you have the codecs on your computer. Anything that Windows Media Player can play, DirectShow can play AFAIK.

But when I look at my DivX movie in mmf2 the DivX logo appears in the bottom left corner of the video. Is there a way to get rid of that? ( The DivX logo is not in the original video ).

It must be coming from the codec - DirectShow isn't adding it.

Whenever possible, use Xvid and not DivX, as Xvid is open source and free. You won't have any problems with logos that way.

AFAIK the DivX watermark comes from the codec; DirectShow doesn't do anything wrong. You should have the same logo in any other Media Players I guess, like Windows Media Player.

Oh? Is there any difference between DivX and Xvid? xD

    Re: Divx or Xvid support?

Well, DivX was free and open source up to version 5 afaik. Then some of the folks there decided to earn some money from it and made it to a commercial codec. You have to buy DivX when you want to encode a movie now.

Then there were the other folks. They decided to go on with the free DivX codec development. And that one turned into Xvid. Xvid is free and open source as it was DivX before.

If these are your movie files, encode them with WMV as it's native to Windows so you won't have to worry about codec problems when distributing your game/application.

    Re: Divx or Xvid support?

I think it would be great if there could be an AVI player extension with the option to integrate codecs into the application, rather than having to rely on codecs stored elsewhere on the hard drive. I have no idea if it's possible in practice, but it would be extremely useful!
