    [Request/Idea/Question] New looping technique?

    Can anyone think of an alternative to the current fastloop method?

    It would be extremely useful if there was some way to actually kid MMF into running a loop, but thinking that it was still handling the same event (rather than the whole event trigger stuff we rely on currently).

    An interface a little like:

    Always
    --- Looper: Initiate loop
    --- Counter: Add 1
    --- Looper: Loop 10 times

    It would ideally (theoretically) try hacking MMFs internal pointers (or whatever it uses to keep track of its location in the event-action list) and making it think that the actions after 'Initiate loop' still needed processing.

    I'm just asking some of the extensioneers to think about it, if maybe there might possibly be a way to pull this off. How does MMF know where it is when it's reading the events, and is there a way to forcibly change that value, even if it's just within the actions of the current event.

    It could be a lot quicker, if it were doable, than the current repeating-trigger method for fastloops.

    Possible do you think? Or should I have gone to sleep an hour ago, lol

    Night all!

    rh2ActionCount (tagRH2/cncf.h) perhaps.

    Isn't the Repeat condition (Special Object->Limit conditions->Repeat) close enough for this?

    Repeat means 'do not run more than 4 times' not 'run 4 times in a row'.

    yeah it should really be renamed to "limit to X times" or something

    Or just 'Only Repeat X times", lol.

    Joshtek: I know you're a busy man, but let us know if you do any tests of it, just to see if it was possible I can imagine it running a lot faster if it could be done!

    Re: [Request/Idea/Question] New looping technique?

    but more on topic, this idea sounds awesome

    it's not a bad thing that fastloops pause the main loop, since you usually want them to do that, but it sucks that they practically destroy object focus... this would be a great way to prevent losing object focus when needing to run an arbitrary amount of actions, since instead of having to run a fastloop (which makes MMF forget the object it was on), you'd basically be running the "loop" in the same action that triggered it

    not only that, but if Dine's other example is any indication, this looks to be a lot faster than fastloops when dealing with objects

    EDIT: also i don't know if there'd be any way to nest these "loops" so fastloops would still be useful in those cases

    Re: [Request/Idea/Question] New looping technique?

    Well there might, if the fundamental concept works out, be a way to nest them. E.g.

    Some condition
    --- Looper: Mark "Main";
    --- Counter 1: Set to 'loopindex("Looper", "Main")';
    --- Looper: Mark "Nested";
    --- Counter 2: Set to 'loopindex("Looper", "Nested")';
    --- Looper: Do "Nested" 10 times;
    --- Looper: Do "Main" 10 times;

    That would be a bit messy, but nested. It'd need to work this way:

    The 'Mark' action determines the action-list number to loop to. So if action #3 is 'Mark "Nested"' (as above), then it will keep looping back to the FOURTH action (the one just after the marker).

    If the 'Mark' action is tripped again (like above, on each pass of the 'MAIN' loop), it would reset the loop so it runs as if for the first time.

    This would enable you to do a nesting feature.

    Just gotta hope the actual hack is doable, LOL!

    Might try to do something like this later. My HD crashed so I don't have Visual at the moment...

    Has there been any news on this at all?
