    3D Engine?

Doe's anybody here know how to code a real 3D Engine? Iv'e seen an example on the tgf file archive of a 3D Actives example without the 3D Actives extension, so I know about the importance of sine, cosine, position and directions of camera, scale, center of screen.

    Found it: http://www.clickteam.com/epicenter/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=12009&Number=8758 7#Post87587

A simple list of 3D Engines I know about that i'd like to learn how to make:

    Wolfenstein 3D Engine

    Doom Engine

    Quake Engine

I have Multimedia Fusion 2 with all it's extensions including dot.net script, how do I do it?

    The hardest part is terrain.

    How do I make a 3D game?

    Re: 3D Engine?

Ok i am sure we've had this conversation before. Unless someone makes a Irlicht engine add on, which is not easy, then it is not possible. Remember at the moment MMF is a 2d games engine.

    Thanks

    Jason

Are you sure you're in the right forum? MMF2 isn't set up for 3D (not without being a coding wizard of some sort). You probably want a C++ forum.

    Re: 3D Engine?

    I had a look at this: http://www.clickteam.com/epicenter/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=84049&fpart=1

But it doesn't at all work, it says it cannot open Irrlicht.dll because it's in the wrong format or something, I am lost.

Maybe I should give up now and wait until a 3D version of Multimedia Fusion comes out and get that and try again.

    Re: 3D Engine?

To use that you will need .net installed (not sure what version), but also to make a game of any kind you would need to program in C#, so if you dont have any c# skills your going to struggle.

Exactly. Not to be harsh, but you should probably drop any dreams of 3D you had, because as Jason said, you are going to need an immense amount of coding knowledge. It would be mostly code and less MMF2 anyway using the .Net extension. And since you've already mentioned every other type of 3D possible in MMF2 and there are examples for each, I would suggest trying one of those.

    Re: 3D Engine?

Not to mention the issue with doing graphics themselves. There's a lot more work that has to be done to make models and textures, especially compared to making sprites. A shoot-em-up from a 2D perspective is much easier to make and can be much more intense. Not that I'm saying 2D is better or anything, but you would really, really be better off adapting your idea for a game into 2D. You might be surprised by how little compromising you actually have to do.
