    Help with breakout style game

Just wanna say thanks for all the help; I know breakout is as old as dirt, but still learning and this small simple games are the best to learn to create. thanks for the help again, here are my questions:

    1. When the ball bounces off the wall graphic I have, sometimes (8/10) times the ball will go through the wall and not bounce.

    2. Midi sounds make the app pause when loading, this normal?

    3. Each level the game pauses about 1 or 2 seconds, enough that when you get in game the ball is passed the bat and you loose a life.

    4. When the ball does go down at the bottom and started a new life the ball will only drop down, even though I have set the direction of the ball to go up. (it will sometimes go through the bat)

For MIDI sound, it's normal if app "freezes" for a moment when the MIDI file is load.

    4. This all depends if you are destroying the ball once it has gone off screen and then recreating it. or if you are just repositioning it.

If you destroy the ball, and recreate it, then you need to set the initial direction to up only (its on the object properties in the movement tab).

If you are only repositioning the ball, when it leaves the screen and you place it back on the screen it is still going in the same direction. So your condition should be:

Ball Leaves please area on bottom

    Action would be:

    Set position to x, y
    Set direction to upwards arrows

    Or something like that.

With regards to the ball going through the bat, is the bat very thin?

Make sure you are using the latest build 247, as there were also some fixes to the balls bounce movement on screen.

Sadly makes the game unplayable cause of the delay with the sound.

thanks for other tips, the walls where too thin I guess, made them better and they work

Re: Help with breakout style game

If you have software to do it, convert your MIDI files to OGG and play this as your music. The way I do it is I use Magix Music Maker to record the playing MIDI file (I don't have a package that will directly load a MIDI and convert it), to a WAV file and then I use Goldwave to convert the WAV to a OGG.

And don't knock Bat & Ball games. Yeah, they're old, but they are great fun and can be customised so many ways to enhance the game play. I've created a few myself over the years.
