    Re: Mac vs. PC

Thanks, Benicle. It sounds like that might be the best bet, but is it something that soccer moms would likely be able to do? I clicked on the Darwine link, and it took me to several different pages. I see they just released a 1.0 version. I downloaded it to my desktop (on my pc) but I can't get Windows to open it.

Is that because it's designed for Macs and other os's? Do you need to download xquartz as well?

Once Darwine is downloaded onto their computer, what exactly do they have to do when they put in my disk to get it to run?

    Hi Kathleen,

Wine and Crossover Mac are programs the Mac users would get and load onto their computer. You create an install program (if needed) or give them the .exe of your MMF app.

Wine and Crossover provide instructions to them on loading in the application. They then run the .exe program.

If you are using Windows, email them the app if not too large, or load it on a USB key, or drop the file on the CD Writer icon and Windows will request a CD and burn a data CD for you. Nero is a software program for burning different types of CD and DVD's like audio CD's for example.

Thanks! I've given them CDs I've burned, which work in Windows but not on a Mac. Can they use that?

Is there a particular version of Wine they should download?

First take a look a Iemulator at www.iemulator.com.

Take a look at the FAQ.

    Also talk to Crossover Mac.

Wine is free but you have to read the documentation.

    Darwin is another option.

With any of these you should be able to provide you normal Windows MMF2 application to your user and they should be get the emulator and install and run that. Check with each of the company providing the emulators and they should be able to tell you how to get your windows application running on a Mac with their emulator solution. Write a manual for your users and bingo your done.

If you know a friend who has a mac test it or perhaps there is a mac store in your area where their tech could help you also on testing.

Buld 248 Java runtime doesz not work on Leopard. It crashes badly, due to a problem with the MIDI sequencer (there is no MIDI sequencer on Leopard, and I try to open one). It works on Tiger.
It will be corrected in the next release of the Java runtime.
