I had this problem too but forgot to ask Greyhill. Not sure if its been fixed yet I would love to know as well as I have just been creating them at edit time instead.

Is this problem strictly to do with setting OEFLAG_BACKGROUND?

I wish it were corrected. In the mean time, the object is so useful that my game uses it anyway- 32 prespawned inactive BIO's on the side of my frame, which are called when needed. Bit silly tbh, but not exactly a resource hog.

Doing the same thing actually. But remember to make them invisible when not needed because they hog memory when out-of-screen and visible for some reason (had to experience the hard way with +300 instances)

    Re: Background Images object instancing?

I noticed this the other day too when trying to create a variable amount of background tiles based on the user's screen size. I spent ages trying to understand why it wasn't working and I eventually came to the conclusion found here that it is a bug.

I'm now using actives instead, which actually run faster in HWA anyway.
