    [Request] Glow Object

    Something that I imagine should be widely needed is a Glow/Outline Object.

    The basic idea of this Object is that it can apply a coloured outline to an object. This outline should have the ability to fade out (so as to look like a glow). Basic parameters should include range (how wide the glow/outline is), the colour and whether it fades to transparent or not.

    This is currently not possible using HWA and pixel shaders because, according to the reliable source of Looki, the low limit of operations makes it an impossibility for PS 2.0.

    Really, a sorely missed extension for anyone wanting a real time glow/outline. Anybody reckon they could hack one together?

    You can achieve this affect using the Flame Object....

    Would you consider loading up an example? I just checked it out, and it seems that the flame can only be in on direction?

    Set the Speed to Zero I believe on the flame speed or cool map speed, you will have to experiment, and it will work, I will try and upload a example tonight, but thats 8-10 hours away, if you just experiment with the speed settings its the key...

    Ah, yes, I have got a nice glow effect with a speed of zero. Not altogether sure why, but it slows me app right down.

    Also, won't work applied to the Vectorial Shape object, which perhaps is understandable, if disappointing.

    How big is your Frame and how big is the glow app, plus what is your color depth set at, and finally, what is the size of the object you are "Glowing"

    Create an object with the outline of the object to be glowed and apply the "Add" ink effect.

    Jaffob, I need the glow to be applied in real time.

    Kisguri, probably going slow because I made the size of the flame object huge. :P Unfortunately, I need a huge object to be glowed, a Vectorial Shape object stretching the frame, so I'm not sure if the Flame object can be used.

    it should be

    the one Looki was referring to had a lot of extra things like cropping and rotations that were pushing it over the limit

    the Blur Borders shader is pretty close to this, it just needs to be colorized (adding a sharp outline is probably harder though, you could resize the "background" texture to serve as a border but it'd look ugly)

    EDIT: actually i'm pretty sure Sphax DID make a glow shader... i don't think it supports outlines, though

    Here are Sphax's glows, but they're not really what I'm going for. I think with a lesser glow power it looks nicer, but if someone can better it, please do.

    Sphax's glows, while nice, are very basic, I'm still unconvinced that it is possible using PS 2.0.
