    3D Mesh - antialiased edges?

Anyone know any way to get anti-aliasing on the edges when you use the 3D mesh object? It looks a bit weird - nice graphics, pixelated edges.

    It's impossible so far.

Ah. I'd hoped it was just an Irrlicht function that hadn't been implemented yet. Back to the drawing board.

    It is.

    Dines in that thread:
It would work by rendering the image several times bigger than the display, then resampling the result down. I think that's the way AA usually works.
I think that's wrong, he means simple resampling. That's what Photoshop etc. do when scaling something, but not graphics cards, would be way too much data.
I've played games that run a LITTLE slower on x8 AA than on x2 or so.

Re: 3D Mesh - antialiased edges?

Older cards did render larger for AA and then average 2,4,6,8, etc pixels together for each screen pixel. Modern cards just do the hit test against the edge of the polygon 2-8 times and only sample the texture / run the pixel shader once for each pixel, much quicker, uses much less memory and only subtly different result.
