    Platform Widget - Contest Entry

This little platform widget is pretty basic, but should be functional and problem free. It's inspired by the Platform Movement Object, and the method of interacting with it is a bit similar in a way or two. The special "feature" of this platform movement is that the player will automatically slide down slopes that are too steep for the player to walk up.

Some credits to DarkeSoft is probably in order too. When I created a platform engine to help him out solving a problem, I realized that I wanted to attempt to create one myself.

...and yes, I know it doesn't look good. Like my older widget collections, it's only there to provide the functionality

Edit: The people at Gwerdy talked some sense into me, and teaching me about the community's common knowledge about that platform movement objects must be yellow. A 1.0.1 version is now released with this problem fixed.

You're welcome. I wouldn't want you to lose a competition over a simple color problem.

True that I'll never win with this widget though. I probably fail at judging criterias b (it isn't easy), d (it's not creative nor original), and e (there's no instructions or documentation, only examples and comments). The yellow colour can compensate a bit for that though!

Dynamite: More options are always great! I'd love to see yours too! Besides, mine is sort of limited, I doubt your would be identical anyway.

Just a tip: If you remove the on ground condition for variable jumps in the event editor, it makes a wonderful helicopter.

Okay, I have optimized this for widget use. All the values you need to use are at the top, and the ones that editing won't make a difference to are at the bottom, hidden. Away.

I can has edited the background and the backdrops, and made the window bigger for more playroom.

Re: Platform Widget - Contest Entry

I disagree with this change. If a value needs to be marked as a "this value doesn't configure the movement of the object", those names can start off with an underscore or something. You even hide names that are meant for interaction with the control events, so that people who's supposed to connect the player movement or AI to the platform character have to deal with unnamed alterable values from the events. Normally people don't comment or name values just out of bad habit, but doing it on purpose is a step worse.

I strongly advice people to not get the modified version, although based on my events, it's only a step away from how I think widgets should work and be documented.
