Importing PNG, confused with alpha channels.

My friend gave me png of the mouse pointer - a finger. He drawn it in Photoshop. Then I opened Cursor Object's Image Editor and imported this png, croped unnecessary pixels, resized to 17x32:

    ...and got this mess O_0

My beautiful finger pointer is now spread all over the icon :'( I'm quite new to all these transparency and alpha-channels options, though tried everything with no effect. My own... emmm... pointers from Screen 1 work fine, I drawn it in MMF2 Image Editor. May be there is some special option in Photoshop about this problem? I'm really confused...

As far as I am aware, the MMF picture editor is not brilliant at dealing with the alpha channel. I've never had any success at any rate :P

The easiest way to get round this is to resize it and do all the editing in another picture editor and import that straight into MMF.

However when doing this, make sure you create a new active object- not one that may already have an alpha channel as that could cause problems again :-\

While we're talkign about it - is there actually a way to edit the alpha channel in MMFs editor that anyone has found ??

Try the button with the alpha symbol next to crop image.

Iv'e had much luck with the Alpha Channel Editor and have gotten it to work but it still isn't very good mainly.

When coping an image it will eaither copy the alpha channel or the RGB never both, this can make things a little slow but it gives new capabilities such as you can copy an alpha channel from one frame to another which has a different image allowing both frames to have same alpha channel but different image.

I never Import graphics into MMF2 if anything I export them.

Re: Importing PNG, confused with alpha channels.

As far as I see, there is the problem in Cursor Object. I imported png into Active Object and it works fine if you check Transparent option:

But without this option checked it's just crap:

Problem is - I don't have such option for Cursor Object. Yeah, there are some Alpha-channel settings in Image Editor but they don't make things better:

No matter what color I pick from the palette of grey, it's still black&white. Black is fully transparent and white is completely solid, right?

Then why do I get THIS again after pressing OK button?

    And if you delete alpha-channel...

You get color mess in Image Editor:

What I think is that ClickTeam should add Trasparent option to Cursor Object. And now I have to draw pointer in Image Editor

Re: Importing PNG, confused with alpha channels.

The cursor object only supports images without alpha channel. Also it usually expects 32x32 images, as it's the standard cursor size on Windows. That's why your image is not correctly displayed in the setup box of the Cursor object.

There is probably a (minor) bug in the picture editor : when you import an image with alpha channel in the picture editor for the cursor object, it should automatically remove the alpha channel.

PS: in your last image as there is no alpha channel anymore it shows the parts of the image that were masked by the empty alpha channel.

That's a pity And there is no way to make mouse pointer except using Cursor Object? I tried Active with mouse movement but then it doesn't work at all)))
