Sound effects repeating, driving me crazy!

As the title implies, I am have some difficulty implementing sound effects into my game. I am working on a platformer, and I want a sound effect when the player jumps. My file format is comprised of small wav. files, 16hz in format, but when the player jumps the sound file repeats add nausea. It's driving me bonkers.

I've been looking through the event editor to find a way to prevent this (like a function to make this wav file play once instead of looping, and yes, I checked and I don't have the play sound and loop event selected) but I seem to be overlooking something obvious.

If you can provide information on what I am doing wrong, I would really appreciate it!
