    It's not like a beta operating system where your whole system will be messed up if something goes wrong.

    I mean Yves isn't going to accidentally destroy a whole piece of software in the small scale updates from 248 to 249. Plus if you have the appropriate backups being saved, theres really no chance of you accidentally saving over a project that suddenly is messed up because of a new build.

    Really, I don't see why anyone would be afraid to use the new beta's of MMF2. I mean these beta's are more about feedback then anything. There's no real risks involved.

    There is a risk of corrupt files of course.

    I advise you to post the offending file here (or a stripped down version which has nothing but the bug) and get CT to look at it themselves.

    I'm really not trying to achieve anything complicated (or that should tax any present build of MMF).

    I have a first part of a game: a 25MB mfa with 6 frames. I know I could have been more frugal and created that part of my game as a single frame. So, I thought with the next part of the game I would try using only one frame but with lots of nested (stacked) groups of events. I copied one of the existing (robust and working) frames and began to strip it down, created a new group of events as a first new 'level' and took the existing groups and nested them in this new group. Then back up to 'Start of Frame' event, clicked on Group of Events > Activate. As I clicked on my choice MMF crashed and continued to crash.

    I was only trying to set things up in the event editor. What existed of the frame played fine. I just couldn't create (or edit) the event 'Activate a Group of Events' without MMF crashing. This only happened since I changed the location (by nesting) of the existing groups.

    I unstacked the groups to their former locations but still MMF crashed. I deleted the nested groups one by one and discovered the cause. One nested group. Even emptied of events, MMF crashed. But with this group (empty folder) deleted - even with the events of this group moved to a new location - MMF does not crash. I created a new group with the same name and put the moved events there. Looks the same, acts the same, everything fine - just much spent time.

    Considering that I was about to embark on this new setup (lots of activating/deactivating event groups within a single frame) should I conclude that MMF does not much like event groups being moved around too much. And should the thought of trying to discover a future cause once my frame has considerably more events and groups put me off pursuing this method and just stick with the tried and tested loads of frames method?

    I have never heard of this bug before. You should try to reporduce it and send to Y or F for bug fixing.

    I renamed some Groups of Events and MMF crashed again when trying to edit Activate/Deactivate Groups of Events. I discovered (eventually) the cause was just long Groups of Events names (1 character less than the limit) and shortening the names has stopped the crashing.

    So... em... don't give Groups of Events long names?

    I just checked, you can enter 79 chars into the group name

    Edit:

    I just check with 5 nested 79 char groups.



    No problem.

    Although I also had no problem editing names with a full amount of characters and continuous characters as in your example, the problem was in editing the activating/deactivating event. My advice is to keep group of event names (well) under the character limit to avoid unwanted crashing.
