    Java Applet Problems

I have build a site as a single Java Applet which works fine using the F9 preview functionality straight from mmf2 however when I export this as a Jar applet and test the generated html file the applet does not run. When I check the java console I get the following errors:

    Exception in thread "Thread-7" java.lang.NullPointerException

    Exception in thread "Thread-19" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission C:\Documents and Settings\Simon.OFFICEPC\...etc

Anyone got any ideas as to what is happening here. I though when the app was built that the dtaa would be compressed within the jar and so I cant understand why it seems to be searchiong down a directory path??

Anyway, if anyone know I would be truly greatful as I've put a lot of work into the site and it would be a complete bugger if I found it wasnt possible at the final hurdle.
    Cheers

What objects are you using in your application? Can you send it to me?

    Re: Java Applet Problems

    Sure thing.

The app is only using Actives, active pictures a backdrop and strings (nothing spectacular there)

I will send you the whole thing just as soon as I can find out how to attach a file to a pricvate message...
    Cheers

Update: I have sent you a pm with a link to the file. CHeers

Grimmy, I looked at your file. You cannot load files from an Applet : an Applet works in a "sandbox" that restricts the access to the user's machine.
You will have to replace your active picture objects by simple active objects in order to have it work as an applet.

    Re: Java Applet Problems

I also tried this using in a Stand-Alone Web Start App. I simply use an "Edit Box" and a basic "button". The app was something quite simple: type in a keyword, hit the button and it opens Chrome and does an image search based off of Google's search page.

At first I was having a problem getting it to run at all -- always got the "java.lang.NullPointerException" error. But then I recently updated to the near-final 249 build and it fixed this. But now it throws another error: "java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission C:\Program Files\...chrome.exe execute)" when I hit the button. Can I force JAVA to ignore this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think it can be 'ignored', because it says Acess Denied. What are you using to open it with?

    Re: Java Applet Problems

I'm using special conditions -- On button clicked:

The path name to the program to run:
    "C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Applicati on\chrome.exe"

    The calculated expression:
    "http://images.google.com/images?as_q="+Edittext$( "txt_input" )+"&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&i mgtype=&imgsz=&imgw=&imgh=&imgar=&as_filetype=&img c=&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=on&as_st=y"

    Re: Java Applet Problems

The Edit Box object is the input and the Button object is doing the initializing. Is that what you mean?

No, I mean what object actually says "Open this app with this command line". EG, are you using the vitalize object, ect? What is actually taking that final expression and telling the OS to open that URL?
