Effects on layers conflict with effects on objects

When can we hope to see effects applied to layers work in conjunction with effects applied to active objects in that layer?

Right now, if I try to use the "Zoom" effect (or any other, pretty much) from Complex-software's pixel shaders on an entire layer, all of the active objects in that layer that happen to use effects become invisible, and actually make that part of the layer invisible as well.

It'd be great if this worked, because right now the problem is pretty limiting-- is this being resolved?

Also, on a different note, how the heck does the RGB coefficient work? If I create an event such as: On mouseclick, set RGB coefficient (of frame) to 200, 10, 30
I only get a shade of red. In fact, no matter what numbers I type in, I only get varying shades of red. As far as I can tell from the editors and such, MMF2 reads RGB in terms of #, #, #, but this doesn't seem to be working...

    Thanks guys!

you need to use getrgb() when inputting separate rgb values

    so in your case it'd be: getrgb(200, 10, 30)

EDIT: i'm not sure about the layer effects, because they work fine for me. does the zoom shader work if applied to just the objects? shaders won't have an effect if your card doesn't support the PS version they require. shaders also won't show up if there's a syntax error in their code, but this is probably unlikely with sphax's

Re: Effects on layers conflict with effects on obj

Thanks xyzzy, that worked beautifully for the RGB values.

The zoom effects, blur, everything works fine for individual objects. But if I apply an effect that changes dimensions (basically anything other than a color mask effect) to a layer, any object (be it active or a backdrop) with an applied effect that isin that layer becomes invisible, and the part of the layer that it covers becomes invisible as well.

So a firey explosion using "Additive blending" basically cuts out an explosion-shaped hole in the layer, but still progresses through the animation frams and everything.

I have PS 3, so I don't know why this is happening...I was just hoping that I wasn't the only one.

No, make that PS version 4.0

Re: Effects on layers conflict with effects on obj

After looking at the problem more closely, I determined that it's only "Subtract" (from the standard MMF2 effect list) that makes the object create a hole in the layer. "Additive blending" actually works just fine.

I have no idea why "Subtract" would be the only one to mess up...

is there even such a ps version

    I have a GeForce 9800 GTX2+ and MMF2 says I have 3.0

If you go to the wikipedia article about pixel shaders, there is a table that shows the pixel shader version for a number of cards. Looki, have you heard of this happening with "Subtract" with any of your effects?

No, sorry; I can't think of any reason for this to happen. The subtract shader works like the add shader, with a slightly different calculation..?
