    Throwing objects

Hi,i was just wondering how i would go about making a character throw an object in a platform game much in the same way some secondary items like the axe in castlevania are thrown - by that i mean there is no complex targeting involved the player simply throws the object at a predetermined angle and/or distance - oh and they don't need to bounce or anything like that the projectile basically falls off the screen.

I was initally going to use the pinball movement for this but there are issues with scrolling so...

    Any help would be appreciated

    Re: Throwing objects

If you want a simple throwing ability, you could use the "Shoot an Object" action. You set the angles and directions you want.

    Re: Throwing objects

Yeah that would work for say throwing knives castlevania style but what i'm really after and need help with is a throw where the object is effected by gravity etc like using the throwing axe or to be more general throwing a grenade but without all the fancy aiming stuff that alot of examples i'm finding have - they tend to confuse me a great deal.

And you don't want to use the pinball movement? Because of scrolling issues? Please explain.

The built-in pinball movement has issues with changing direction when used with some scrolling.

Oh. Hmmm... if they will always go along the same path you could use a path movement... otherwise you'd have to go with a custom movement or if you can figure out vector go for it... I myself can't understand it yet but haven't really tried.

    Re: Throwing objects

or, the very generic but always works:

Bouncing ball movement, Create and set dir to (pick an upwards facing right direction, like 4)

    Every 0.05 (or whatever delay)+
Dir of (thrown active) = (any of the directions facing right EXCEPT UP OR DOWN)
    --->
    Set Dir(thrown) to Dir(Thrown)-1

then do the same for left, but make it +1. change the timer and object speed to change the arc of the object. This method isnt nearly as fluid looking as the pinball, but it works with scrolling and is pretty easy to do.

    Re: Throwing objects

and to not make it go in a complete quarter circle use an alterable value a of the object you are throwing and always subtract one from it. And have an alterable value b set at 500. Set alterable a to 500 when thrown. When alterable value a of the object reaches 0, ad alterable value b to it, change the direction and subtract 20 from alterable value b or something like that.

:tired: sorry I'm a little sleepy and I haven't really thought it through. If you don't understand I'll be back tomorrow.
