    Kind-of 3D

    I'd like to know if it's possible - or will ever be possible - to do these kind of games in MMF 2 with or without extensions.

    2D gameplay, a bit of 3D for show.

    Can you do this with the paralaxer object? If so how?

    Talking here about a realtime 3D effect in both the X and Y planes.

    Parallaxer is a purely 2D effect that happens to look like 3D.
    While it might be possible to make a semi 3D cube with parallaxer object it would require quite a bit of eventing. To make a complete 3D feel I would have to add rotation (not that hard).
    Doing a complete 3D box kinda effect is just a bit over the top for an extension like this
    You might want to try out some other extensions for more 3D like extensions - like Irrlicht

    Re: Kind-of 3D

    To clarify a little. I was wondering if it's possible to have the paralax effect work in both X and Y planes, as seen in the first video and the second part of the second video. No Z axis effect.

    The only way I can think atm is to use the Paralaxer for one axis' effect (eg , and prerender the cube object in a 3D program, at 100 or so different angles in the Y axis, setting the angle (frame) according to it's Y position on screen. Is that what you were referring to when you said it would require a bit of eventing?

    I'll have a look at the extensions you mentioned. Thanks for your reply.

    Irrlicht was apparently discontinued according to a thread I just read on here. Do you know any available extensions that would be appropriate for the GTA style top-down pseudo 3D?

    You won't be able to get ahold of the Irrlicht extension, its currently in a closed beta state.

    ... you will however find that any and all your 3D desires are achievable with MMF, with varying difficulties to implement.

    Parallax on both the x and y, is called non perspective 3D, and is incredibly simple.

    This article covers that.. and much more;

    As far as a 3D display engine instead of Irrlicht i would suggest OpenGL; which is covered in the above article.

    I really want an extension to do this also. That would be awesome.
