Upgrading a license from a 30 day trial license

How do you install a new registration code for your application without having to re-install the application ?

I want to be able to provide a 30 day trial license to a user then, if he upgrades, I want to be able to send him a new registration code which will enable the application for permanent use but I dont want the user to have to re-install the application.

There are many ways to do this; however, trust me, like I said before, it's not worth your time to implement. Just do demo with restrictions, and then when they download they just get the full version with no DRM. If you need a payment provider use bmtmicro.com

Pkeod, Thanks for your ideas but it doesn't really answer my question - I want the user to avoid having to re-install the application just because he gets a new registration code.

The basic question is: is there a way of installing the registration code independant of any other action ?

You can have the version they download be the full version that defaults into a demo mode when there is no serial. You can count the days from the first time it is opened in an encrypted file (save it to the appropriate app data folder) using ini++. A simple way of doing serial numbers is something like:

    Left$( MD5("Customer Name" + "Secret Phrase"), 5 )

Then when a customer buys the program you would tell them to enter their name and the serial, and when they enter this info your program can verify it.

There is a lot of upkeep involved with this stuff, and in my opinion downloading the full version of the program and installing it over the demo is much a much better solution.
