    Re: Dragonguy needs OINC Game Beta Testers

    Ok I've figured out the format for the map editor and how to export to MMF2, I set it so that it doesn't compress Layer Data & bingo all I get this when I save:

    <tile gid="36"/>
    <tile gid="19"/>
    <tile gid="4"/>

    That number is what position that tile is on the Tileset, moving down the list you get each tile on the Map; both of which are L to R then U to D, now all I have to do is to seperate the junk form the numbers but using the tokens object & fastloops it should be easy to create a new file in in a milisecond that goes:

    36,19,4

    Like this but on a much larger scale, the newly created array is much smaller in size, seeing as i'll be making quite a few maps for my game.

    Why don't you just make your own level editor? Then you can save in whatever format you want and easily modify it.

    Beacuse that would take longer.

    Re: Dragonguy needs OINC Game Beta Testers

    Iv'e designed the Main Map for my game, it consists of 28 different areas, which very from Very Small to Huge, some of those that take up little space but may seem big simply because they are Very Long.

    Now I need to design each individual area.

    Decide what would take longer - making a level editor or making levels from scrap

    Usually I go with grid based games so I can plan out levels on graph paper. It really gives me something to do that's productive for my game if I'm not at home

    Mate you are in no way ready for such a big complex project if you think a level editor will waste time.
    Level editors will actually make level design faster once you have the foundations layed. Plus level editors will also allow your users to submit their own content etc. Plus level editor time should be minimal compared to everything else you need to make to have a working online game...

    Basic level editors are very simple and really you could make a simple one within an hour or two. But I guess you would rather spend that time asking other simple questions on these forums instead.

    Have you looked at Tiled ?

    It's far from a basic level editor ! It has all the features one could want, and it would definitely be a waste of time to recode it. I wrote an importer for Tiled maps in about 5 hours (and I'm a python-noob), try to code an editor with multiple tilesets, with zoom, copy/paste, undo/redo, layers, locked layers, and everything in such a small time... I'm sure it's definitely worth it.

    I aggree, TileD is advanced and efficient, for my game i'll be using two layers, one for terrain (it's very simple but nice looking, I designed the tileset myself) & one for objects and sprites which on the map will look different from what they are in game, I need to tell what they are on the map.

    In TileD you can copy an entire section of terrain and then paste it to somewhere else & it has a fill tool, it's almost like using a Graphics Editor.

    Re: Dragonguy is making an OINC Game

    Construction of the game has begun! I will not start OINC coding until I know whats wrong with my Test Application and how to make it right.

    The game will be one moderately sized map (23 by 18 small zones) anybody can chat to each other from anywhere, it will have different places to visit such as the fishing docks or the mines, it will have 3 towns and a nice farm and a few dungeons and oh some dragons to kill.

    I haven't got any quests yet but i'll do those much later.
