    OpenGL vs 3Dmesh - performance

    Hi,
I have already posted into similiar topic but there was no definite anwer whather those are in HWA already accelerated. I mean - in MMF2 standard mode it gets laggy with more 3D meshes. How about HWA? Its still rendered to 2D space but this 2D space is hw accelerated, or is it independent window causing bottle-neck effect?
Rather then testing I would like to hear technical point of view
And about openGL - I still believe more in D3D, but maybe it doesnt apply nowadays

HWA will have no major speed gains when primarily using 3D mesh objects.

OpenGL when rendered too directly is still the fastest way to display multiple 3d objects.

SEELE: thanks. So with the 3Dmeshes the problem is drawing the object to MMF window? I guess so. And OpenGOL rendered to MMF window? Im considering a game with many 3D objects in 2D frame. But not sure about MMF capability regarding to speed.

It would be immensely better if all the 3D objects were simply models in a single OpenGL object.

SEELE: Well, but that would mean that I couldnt not control them independently. It would need single OpenGL object for each object.

Pardon me if Im srong as i dont have any 3d experience whatsoever, but isnt LUA compatible with OpenGL? By that I mean cant you control models directly from scripting?

With or without Lua you CAN indipendintly control each model by using matrix translations.

Re: OpenGL vs 3Dmesh - performance

I think HWA will eventually open the doors to a better method of drawing the 3d-mesh object to the frame, which'll indeed make it faster.
At the moment, the 3dMesh object aint much use.
