    Auto-Inserting Name into Dialogue Text

    Hello, All

You know how in some games, you're able to name your character at the beginning, and from then on, everyone in the game refers to you by that name? How would go about implementing this In MMF2? I've messed around with some string commands and options, but can't seem to figure this one out.

    Help Please... =/

Just set the name to a Global String. Then later in the game, at anytime, you can retrieve the name.

    For example:

User inputs his/her name into an editbox at the start of the game. Store the editbox text to Global String A. Then you can get the name at anytime and put it into a string, eg. Change Alterable String - Global String+" is your name."

Hmmm... Thanks for the info, but maybe I didn't explain this well enough. All the text is going to be - or rather, I want all the text to be - pre-written. Therefore, I basically want to know if there's a way to insert the players name into a pre-written paragraph. Like, is there an equation I can use, or no?

Maybe try using INI or similar?

I cant see what is wrong with global strings for pre-written texts?
Just use strings like: "Hello "+Global String A +"!".

Re: Auto-Inserting Name into Dialogue Text

he probably wants a %Playername% or similar in the text, that is automatically replaced by MMF.

If that is the case, MMF doesn't have that feature from the box, but it can easily be implemented using a lot of different methods:
    I.E.:

    Substring Replace Object,
    String Parser Object,
    LUA,
    etc

Personally, I recommend the "substring replace object" coupled with a global string (as mentioned), which will do what you are asking within less than a minute of tinkering.

Cool! That's exactly what I needed, Fimbul.

Thanks for everyone else's responses, too.

Re: Auto-Inserting Name into Dialogue Text

Er.... Heh heh heh... That'll teach me to respond before testing the object out =P

I just got the Substring Replace object, and don't have a clue as to how to use it. I have very little experience in coding strings. Could somebody be so kind as to give me some tips, or to post an example?

    Pretty please?
