    Text box/Cutscene Text

Ok, so I've recently started development on a freeware game. But I need help with making a text box appear when the frame starts up, and how to make more text appear upon hitting a certain button.

Also, would that extra text need to be hidden and then a command for it to show?

Any help at all would be fantastic, thanks in advance!

You can split the text into paragraphs. When you push a button you can have the edit box show the next paragraph.

Thanks for the response, but can you help with the events that would be needed, the objects I would need, and the like? Just so I can get a clearer idea on where to start at.

    Re: Text box/Cutscene Text

    Start of frame
Edit Box: Set text to "nivram is a duffas" (or no text)

    User clicks more button
Edit Box: set text to "nivram has brain leakage"

    Re: Text box/Cutscene Text

Thanks for the help, but the Edit Box doesn't let me directly edit text in, I've seen like, uploading text files, so I tried that. But when I did it, it turned my line of text into some weird symbols. So yes, if anything, I am doing it wrong, please halp. >.<

Edit: Nvm, I am bad. But is there anyway I can press Z and text scrolls in? Then I press Z and more text scrolls in?

I shall get back to you on that. I am going to look at my examples.

Hi again Smedwicks. Sorry, I could not find my example and I don't know off the top of my head. Hopefully another forum member will help out in this quest.

Not sure if you want a box in Windows style. But since this seems to be ingame text, it would be more beautiful to use an Active Object as text border/background and a String Object to display the text. The String Object has different paragraphs which can be selected by your conditions, as suggested above.

The String Object also allows to change text directly within your code. Example: in a tutorial level I read the appropriate text from an Ini file whenever the player reaches a "point of information".

You may want to check out the "Text Blitter" extension.

I'm fine with what I have now, since this is basically the pure beta version of my game, and we're focusing on gameplay. But I'll keep that in mind.

Edit: Where would one find the Text Blitter extension?
