    Ask for Admin Privileges

Is there a way for me to have my program ask for admin privileges if there are none? I don't want the user to have to click Yes/No every time they start it up, but for specific features, administration privileges are required.

    Re: Ask for Admin Privileges

Do you mean admin priveledges in Windows, or that your particular program has some options that are only accessable by login in as an admin within your program? If its the second option then you could store login info as a hash table or encrypt it in an ini file somewhere which you can compare against.

Privileges* in Windows would be the only thing that makes sense in the context of his question.\

This is what you are looking for I believe:

He means request them as-required at run-time.

If you can be bothered to read it, I think this is the right area of MSDN:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...8VS.85%29.aspx

I haven't read it yet though. Trying and failing to solve my own programming problem...

    Re: Ask for Admin Privileges

This is a real problem for other non-mmf apps as well. If I remember correctly winamp actually has a separate program that elevates it's privileges.

You might be able to find a program that can be run by command line to elevate your program for you.

    Just throwing ideas out there.

    Re: Ask for Admin Privileges

So judging by the amount of people interested in this topic in such a short time, it's not too easy to do this. Though it would be annoying, I'm probably just going to have another app with admin privileges.

Or, since the program I'm trying to make is a theme/plugin installer, I could just set the theme/plugin folder in the AppData folder, and be done with this administration stuff.

    Re: Ask for Admin Privileges

Yeah that might be for the best. It is better to avoid all this stuff if possible.

It is good you have options but I swear some programs seem to ask you as required. But perhaps they are all using different processes too.
