We all know how useful and powerful the Overlay Object is, yet we all know how buggy and dated it is. It won't behave when scrolling or layering are used, and won't display at all in HWA Mode. It also doesn't support anti aliasing, or any effects, which are very slow if implemented manually.
I think we need a modern, HWA-enhanced, Overlay-like Clickteam extension for MMF2.
The features I'd like to see in an object like that would be:
- Anti aliasing for lines and shapes! In different algorithms and levels if possible.
- Display Effect- Set a Pixel Shader to be used when displaying the surface, without modifying the actual content of the surface.
- Apply Effect- Modify the content of the surface according to a Pixel Shader.
- (Partial) Binary compatibility with the Overlay Object, so older objects that can load data from Overlay objects can be used.
