    HWA-Enhanced Overlay-like object?

    We all know how useful and powerful the Overlay Object is, yet we all know how buggy and dated it is. It won't behave when scrolling or layering are used, and won't display at all in HWA Mode. It also doesn't support anti aliasing, or any effects, which are very slow if implemented manually.

    I think we need a modern, HWA-enhanced, Overlay-like Clickteam extension for MMF2.

    The features I'd like to see in an object like that would be:
    • Anti aliasing for lines and shapes! In different algorithms and levels if possible.
    • Display Effect- Set a Pixel Shader to be used when displaying the surface, without modifying the actual content of the surface.
    • Apply Effect- Modify the content of the surface according to a Pixel Shader.
    • (Partial) Binary compatibility with the Overlay Object, so older objects that can load data from Overlay objects can be used.

    definitely could use it, if it is optimized for GPU instead of CPU

    I can't actually test this ATM, but i think that should allow you to draw polys (and all other shapes as byproduct) as a hardware accelerated pixel shader.

    As a side effect it will allow you to make 3D models out of active objects :P

    I think it would be a good idea to make the layers stuff actually part of the event editor options also as well as a object for it. Why? because layers and effects are now a default and main part of the frames so all default stuff should be able to be edited at runtime with events.

    Object or default though i agree fully the overlay/redux stuff is some of the most useful and needs to be fully working in HWA or a new better alternative in my opinion.

    Other than what you have said i would like to see -

    • Layer saving to image with transparency options for PNG etc
    • Bake pixel effect to layer (makes what you see the actual image)
    • Bake/Paste all to layer (all items above paste to the layer)
    • Bake/Paste object to layer (select any object in frame and paste it if visible on screen)
    • Bake/Paste object to position (same as above but objects paste to set location even if out of view and not on the frame)
    • Clear all layer - Wipes everything pasted to the layer
    • Clear layer with alpha - Wipes part of the layer via a alpha mask
    • Import image to layer - Directly imports a image to the layer
    • Load/Edit Alpha Mask - Hides parts of the layer using a alpha but does not effect the actual main layer and the mask can be editied or removed etc later.
    • Clipboard - Paste layers from/to clipboard

    SEELE thats just for drawing polygons though, it doesn't really cover all the Overlay Object/Redux bases and couldn't do stuff like saving out images or many of the other stuff only a object could do. I think we definately need a new/updated object for the sort of tasks mentioned that works in HWA.

    Drawing shapes is useful though so thanks for the code, i didn't try it yet but you should turn that example into a mfa for people maybe as im guessing it's working well and people are wondering how to do this.
