    demo recording

ive noticed in the storyboard options there is play demo file.

how would you make a demo file??

could you build a demo file that would play on its own without input from user?

or would i be better of video recording the screen and posting to utube?

    Re: demo recording

In the frame properties there is a button to record the demo file.

This doesn't record object positions, but rather, it records key presses. So you will need to make sure when recording the demo that you have set it up so that the movement and everything is the same each time, otherwise your demo could play wrong sometimes and play correctly other times.

    Re: demo recording

I've always wondered about the demo files... what does it save your file as - a mpg video, avi video?

Does anyone actually use the function?

    Re: demo recording

    Here is what you do

In the frame property put in a file name to save your demo as
Press record in the frame properties in the demo area

Play your frame this is recording your demo file

    Close your game

Now in the event editor under a start of frame condition then the storyboard use the action demo - play demo file (same filename as what you recorded above)

The help file also says this:

    Demo
The demo action allows you to play a demo previously recorded. All the keypresses, joystick movements, and mouse movements and clicks will be simulated. It you play your frame at exactly the same time you recorded it, it will play exactly the same. It is recommended that you use this action in a Start of frame event.

Play demo file asks for a filename. Plays the given demofile. All keyboard and mouse input done by the user will have no effect until the end of the demo.

    Re: demo recording

Hmm... so potentially a good way of making in-game cut-scenes/narrative sections.

Jeff - once you start the demo, it says all user input is ignored - does that mean that you can't bypass at all, until the demo ends?

Surely you should be able to quit the demo by hitting escape or something.

    Re: demo recording

This is the one glaring problem with an otherwise brilliant feature

There needs to be a way to exit out of the demo. All games of the past that demo levels exit the demo if the user presses fire. Is there really no tricky way to solve this issue?

    Re: demo recording

I just checked, and stopping the demo is easily possible by jumping to the same/different frame with a menu option.

    MFA: http://www.LB-Stuff.com/MMF2/StopDemo.mfa
    MFD: http://www.LB-Stuff.com/MMF2/TEST.mfd

Download both, and edit the MFA to play the MFD file from where you saved it.
