    Blackberry vs. Windows Mobile

Okay, I see that some Windows Mobile phones, like the HTC Touch Pro - are on the compatible list. Do the .cod install files work on both platforms? Or just the Java .exe? I am hazy about the compatibility of the two platforms.

Basically it's about time for a new cell phone, I want to be sure I get one MMF apps are compatible with. And, HTC makes awesome Windows Mobile phones...

You can create COD files, fbut for the moment things like the track ball are not supported in Blackberry.

That I can live with. But to be sure, the mobile java export for Blackberry also runs on Windows Mobile platform equally well?

You can build a J2ME MIDlet (jar + jad) and run them on Windows Mobile. HTC Touch Pro supports MIDP 2.0 so it should be fine. So instead of using the build type "stand alone java for Blackberry" in MMF2, you could try the "stand alone java for mobile devices" option.

I don't know if it runs "equally" well, since I don't have a blackberry, but I did try some things with a touch cruise, a touch diamond and my touch pro 2, and they all run fine.

Well that is good news. I'm strongly leaning towards the Touch Pro 2 as my next phone. That thing is freakishly awesome.

And by the way, they didn't lie about the battery - that thing is a monster, runs for a week without charging!

My next thought... -Has anyone tried running MMF apps on Windows Mobile 6.5 yet? I imagine it would be fine... some of the HTC phones allow you to upgrade for free.

Here is a growing list of MIDP compatible phones. Anyone can add phones to the list too:

Runs fine on WinMobile 6.5 and 6.0 - No word on 7.0 since only leaked/pirated/buggy copies are out. A couple display glitches when you have a lot of objects(screen not clearing properly), but that happens in all phones (and you can fix it manually).
