Tips on making the game run faster?

    Hi again =]

I wnted to do a game that worked with tons of actives, but I am starting to have problems with high numbers.

If enemies are bigger than 300, the game starts to get slow, is this normal?

what can I do to handle more than 1,000 enemies, is this even possible?

Thanks a lot for the help.

have you tried downloading the HWA (hardware accelerated runtime) version of MMF2? It's a little buggy, but much faster. Still, not sure if 1000 enemies can ever be manageable. Why do you need so many?

Go to the frame properties, and look at the object limit.

Increase it if needed - see if that helps?

Heaps of actives will cause slowdown, even in HWA, although it can handle many more objects.
not much you can do after using HWA, its MMF drawing routines that can't really do any better

A few years ago I spent many months creating a shooting game. I think i had a max of a few hundred enermys on the playing field at a time. Unfourtunatly, it was pretty much unplayable on most PCs i tried it in - it had far too many slowdown problems.

Re: Tips on making the game run faster?

You can have tonnes of objects (~7,000) in HWA, provided that those objects aren't tied to any events.

The more events control your objects, the fewer of them you can have before your framerate is affected.
The explanation must be that the CPU bottlenecks you before the GPU.

You probably could have optimised your events around that, though.
