    Street Fighter style health

I was trying to clone the way a Street Fighter game handles their health bar. It starts as a yellow bar and if a player gets hit, a portion of the yellow bar goes down instantly and it leaves a red smear that goes down slowly behind the yellow bar to help show how much damage you dealt (If you played a street fighter game you'll know what I'm talking about)
I tried to clone this using 2 overlapping horizontal counters where the front counter(yellow) drains instantly and the back(red) drains slowly. The problem is it always causes the back counter to overlap the counter in front (the yellow one) turning the whole thing red.I tried playing around with the order of the counters( bring yellow to front, bring red to back) in the events editor but it doesn't seem to work, so the red counter will stay in front of the yellow one no matter what. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks

It sounds like you have the right idea - just uncheck "Display as background" in both the counters' properties to get them to display correctly when they update.

Yeah, DavidN's solution should help, but if you are still needing help I have a fighting game example on my website, which includes these styles of health bar.

You could also add a condition like:

+Red Bar is overlapping yellow bar
-Move red bar behind yellow bar.
