    Dropping a bouncing object

I have been playing around with MMF2 for a year or so now, but I have never done anything serious with it due to time contraints. I am currently trying to solve the following problem...

If I 'drop' an object (i.e. by placing it on the screen at a specific location, how can I get it to act like a bouncing ball? i.e. it falls, bounces at the bottom of the screen and eventually comes to a halt. I would like to keep this object active, so if something else hits it, it would move just like a ball would.

I was thinking that I could use the bouncing ball movement and use some combination of gravity, deceleration, etc, but I can't achieve the desired effect.

Is there too much physics in this requirement, or is it something I can achieve with MMF2? It's something that is easily achievable in Actionscript, so maybe it's just me thinking about the problem in the 'wrong' way.

I want to export to SWF, which may be somewhat limiting if extensions are required.

    Thanks in advance.

    Try using the pinball movement.

    Re: Dropping a bouncing object

Thanks Jay, I have tried the pinball movement, and it looks as thought it should do the job.

I have specified that when the object (i.e. pinball) hits the background (an obstacle at the bottom of the screen) it should bounce, and it does this as expected.

The problem is that when the pinball stops bouncing, it starts to 'crawl' slowly to the left of the screen.

The only items in the frame are the pinball object and a background (a backdrop set as a platform at the bottom of the screen). The only condition that I have set is:

[Pinball object] collides with the background = [Pinball object] Bounce

The pinball is set with gravity 25, deceleration 50, initial speed 50 and an initial direction of 24 (down).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Maybe test if the pinball speed is less than 2 when it bounces, and if so, make it Stop.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this does not work as required; the object stops the next time it reaches the top of the bounce because (I assume) its speed goes to zero (and hence to 2) before it starts to fall again.

I really thought it would be easy to get an object to bounce until it came to a halt. Perhaps I am missing something obviouse!

    Any other thoughts?

Shouldn't you just set speed to speed/2 when it bounces?

Because 1/2=0.5 which rounds to 1.

    MMF always rounds down.
