Is there a way to test for the left-most object?

    Hey, folks!

Is there a way to test (or write a condition) for the "left-most object in a zone," so as to determine what the X-coordinate of a new object would be?

    Thank you!

I am pretty sure you can easily do this with the select object extension
Working as fast as I can on Fusion 3

Re: Is there a way to test for the left-most object?

I was just looking at that (especially since a nearby post was asking something similarly)!

But I'm not sure how I would select the left-most object with the Select object extension...

One thing I am trying to do is use a Counter object such that as each "of these items" is added to the frame, 1 is added to this counter, and that number is assigned to a specified alterable value. Then, with the Select object extension, I would select the single "Active object?" with the highest alterable value...

Yet, it's not so much the object I need, but that object's X-coordinates. At this point, a way to build such an expression seems to break down. I can't create a "compare two general values" expression that would say, "Get the X-coordinate position of the object the Select Object has selected."

So, I'm afraid I'm still stuck... Any ideas on how I might use the Select Object (or another) to work around this?

Thanks for all your help, LB!

Always: Set Alterable Value A of Active to X( "Active" )

(Select Object) Select By Alt Value > Select Object with lowest Alt Value

Wow, netninja! You make it look so easy! ;-)

I guess I'm still a bit confused, I'm afraid... (That's not been too hard these days!) While all of these are Active objects, they are not clones of each other. So, if I understand what the two expressions do is they will only acquire the Alterable Value for the one object. And while I could write "Always" statements for each of the possible Active items in question, I can't set up an action to "set position for 'Select Object's selection of Alterable Number's greatest value"... Or can I?

As you can tell, I'm definitely still confused!...

I created an example for you:

I hope it helps. Don't hesistate to ask if you have any more questions.

Re: Is there a way to test for the left-most object?

Sorry I didn't completely address the second part of your question - but you should be able to modify the example to do what you want.

As you can see a single active object is selected so that you can perform actions on it such as retrieving its x position. You can also set its x position as required.

To do what you wanted you can simply change the "Lowest Alterable Value" to "Highest Alterable Value" and then set its x position.
