i still havnt had luck finding files with the search object
say there is a file in c:\mp3\simple plan.mp3

    1 editbox, 1 button, 1 search object, 1 list

    ---events---
    first
    *start of frame
    + search object
-set search directory to "c:\mp3" (also tried "c:\mp3\")

    * button 1 clicked
    + search object
    -simple search
    -find text
(editbox text "simple" or "simple plan")

    * text found
    + list object
-add line Search filename$( "Search" )

and i dont get any results
    from this

It doesn't use the search object but it should do what you want.
Working as fast as I can on Fusion 3

    Re: search files

Does this mean the Search object is useless then? Does it work. Is there a search example using this object?

    Re: search files

Seriously, with the Nifflas FileSearcher example i was able to write a Zip application (with the Archive Object)..

Then you should using that instead the Search object.

    hehe.

    Re: search files

That's not the point I'm trying to make. If the object is broken it should be fixed.

    Re: search files

The object isn't broken, it's just more easily to make it work with the Nifflas method.

    Re: search files

Wow! For once I can CONTRIBUTE to this forum rather than ASKING for help!

I am presently using the Search object to search for text in HTML files (for my company's product documentation). I find that that the "index mode" of the Search object works well.

So, when you place the Search object into your frame, go to its properties and specify a wildcard filter (in your case, .MP3). Create an Edit box which will be used as the input search string. When the associated button (or ENTER) is used for that Edit box, include these actions for the Search object:

1.) Set search directory to top-level of the directory you want to search. (For example, suppose you keep all your MP3s in your "My Music" folder.)
2.) Edittext$( "Search Term" ) (Comment: "Search Term" is your Edit box to input your search string.)
3.) Enable to search in subdirectories.
4.) Build index for "Edittext$( "Search Term"

Then add another condition that states "After index is built," include a Search object action, "Find first entry in index".

Create another condition that states "Text found," then perform whatever action you want to do with that found text from the index (such as writing the file name to a list box).

    I hope this helps!
