    Background collision vs. overlap question

Got a question about background collision vs. overlap... Need ideas on a solution.

Here it is: I want a monster to stop when colliding with a background obstacle, but then keep looking at the player and starting to move again toward the player when the player is within line of sight.

What happens now is that if the monster is set to stop when colliding with the obstacle, it seems to keep going right on through (the stop must just be happening only once and then it keeps heading toward the player.)

However, if the monster is set to stop while overlapping background obstable, it stops alright, but it stays stuck on the background object... very annoying.

I tried several fixes, including having it bounce off the background object, but it looks dumb.

    Any ideas at fixes?

    Thanks

Re: Background collision vs. overlap question

The reason is, Collide happens when the pixels touch, eg next to eachother, but don't overlap. Overlap happens when they actually are overlapping.

This is just an explanation post, sorry I don't have a solution other than don't use bouncing ball. ;p

Re: Background collision vs. overlap question

The reason this happens is because if you use the Collision with Obstacle, it will stop short of the obstacle, turn to face the player and move right away, pushing it inside. I suggest trying the following:

Set speed to 1 + bounce + set speed to normal higher in the events. (And use both overlap and collision)

Use sine/cosine to reposition the enemy back after overlap (this will probably cause bugs)
