How do I use the Screen Capture object?

    Hey, folks!

I'm trying to figure out how to use the Screen Capture object, though I seem to be having some difficulties.

I read the following from the MMF2 Developer documentation regarding the Screen Capture object:

"NOTE: this is the only option available when the Capture Object is first downloaded and installed. To produce AVIs etc, you need to add to this list. Click on Edit, then on Import. Choose the file Default.cot from the Extensions folder. This file contains the default tool configuration, including Video for DOS."

When I look in my Extensions folder, I can't find a file called "Default.cot".

    Could anyone offer any assistance?

    Thank you very much!

    Most graciously...

I don't think the Video for Dos exists anymore -- It was something from MMF 1.5 you could use to convert images into an AVI file -- Similar better programs must exist now for doing this.

Re: How do I use the Screen Capture object?

    Hey, Jeff!

Actually, I found a nice program called CamStudio (which is free and open sourced). Not only is it a Window-based program (as opposed to DOS), it can also record audio.

I did find a copy of Video for DOS, but found it doesn't record audio.

So, aside for capturing a number of consecutive images, the Screen Capture object is obsolete? Perhaps you might consider retiring it (especially since objects like The Big Box can do individual screen captures and CamStudio can do AVI recordings)?

Thank you for your reply, though!

    Most sincerely,

Screen capture can capture an image of the screen.

The video for Dos was a method for taking a series of images and making a movie -- Its still very useful if you want to capture images just the method described in the help for making a video needs to go away or be changed.

Sphax has an extension that allows you to convert images into a movie.

Re: How do I use the Screen Capture object?

    Hmmmm... Interesting...

So, if one were to use the Screen Capture object to capture all the frames, then use the AVI Object to compile an AVI from the images, what could one use to record the audio WAV file that would accompany the AVI file which the AVI object would compile?

I imagine there may be challenges in syncing the captured frames with the recorded audio (if MMF2 Developer offered such an object).
