    Frame rate issue

Hi, I'm just putting together the first level of my flash game.
Everything seems fine when running the game in mmf and as an .exe but when I run the game as a .swf in a browser (ie and firefox) the game runs very slowly/jerky.there are a few objects in the frame, but I'm surprises with the framerate being so slow.can anyone give an idea of how to solve this please.

    Re: Frame rate issue

Are you doing something every frame that could be resource heavy?
What does the debugger claim your memory usage is?
What frame rate do you have it set at, and what frame rate do you have in testing, EXE, and Flash?

    Re: Frame rate issue

I have looked at the frame and I have around 70 - 75 objects and next to the objects it shows between 19 - 24 MB (with some adding/deleting some objects). These numbers are shown when running the game in MMF.

    Are these numbers high?

I do have a lot of groups being activated and deactivated, this is when object move to different zone/areas of the screen (which occur a lot).

Deleting some objects and reducing the actual size of the sprites has helped - but that isn't good for my game and changes it too much.

Is there a way to show/change the FPS when running in the SWF/FLASH?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Are you using fast loops?

    Re: Frame rate issue

Neither are high. You can't change the framerate in flash, but you can display it in an alterable string. The Frame Object has an expression, FrameRate, to get you the number of frames per second. String or counter, choose one and display it.

    Re: Frame rate issue

I'm not using any fastloops, I have just checked out the forums and I see there are some slow down issues with them. I don't appear to be using any.

I will have a look at the Frame object (frame rate).

In my game I just have lots of groups switching on and off. When I remove objects the game runs smoother and also when I shrink the size of some of the graphics (they are no larger than 512x512 - the overall game screen/frame is 640x480).

Thank you very much for the help - any other ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

    Re: Frame rate issue

    Hi,

I have had a look for the Frame Object (I assume its an extension) but I cannot find it.

Also I have just tried my game in Chrome, Firefox and EI.

The game plays smoothly in Chrome, yet in EI it appears to have issues/frame drop when alot is going on and Firefox drops frames also - but this has the worst playback/glitches.

Has anyone else had any of these issues.

I'm hoping to put my game up for sponsorship on Flash Games License. Will these issues effect my chances of getting a sponsor???

    Re: Frame rate issue

He meant the built in "Frame Object" (chess board looking icon in the event editor)

Just set a sting as Always > Change alterable string > FrameRate

    Re: Frame rate issue

Great - I managed to get the "Frame Object" working with a counter.

My frame rate dropped when my player goes over a few objects that have a lots of transparency.

I removed the transparency in area that didn't cause much of a visual issue - and now the frame rate stays around 50 - 40 FPS where as before it was around 25-30.

This has fixed the problem :-)

Thank you every much for the help.
